Tijdreizen met Tobi

Tijdreizen met Tobi

19-07-2012 | 15.28

Ergens tussen Duitsland, Ibiza en de rest van de wereld kreeg Melon Tobi Neumann te pakken voor een kort gesprek over tijdreizen en kinderen.

Melon: ‘Hi Tobi, I wrote down tons of questions, but I all lost them in my pile of Post-its’
Tobi: ‘Hahahahah, no worries.’
Melon:‘This is the one question I do remember though: ‘If you could time travel, where would you go to?’
Tobi: ‘That’s actually a good question, because I always try to imagine ho wit would be to live two, or maybe just one million years ago on Earth. And to see the dinosaurs.  Or was it 60 million years ago when the dinosaurs lived on planet Earth?
Melon: ‘I don’t know man, I am only 35.’
Tobi: ‘The other time that i would really want to live or see is the Middle Ages.
Melon: ‘Really?!’
Tobi: ‘Yeah, it was also probably nice to see the nature back then. I would love to be in the U.S.A. or South America before the Europeans came.
Melon: That’s actually kind of interesting, because when I asked you the question I thought where I would wanted to go and I just came up with going back to the end of the 60’s beginning of the 70’s to see the whole naked revolution going on. And also because the music that came out during that period of time, still touches me the most.
Tobi: ‘For me it’s more about the Earth not being ‘punished’ by humans yet, and to see it like that.
Melon: ‘Cool, but if we could time travel, we probably could go to different time periods anyway.’
Tobi: ‘Yeah, we could visit Mozart. Or Beethoven, when he was sitting in his little basement and was almost deaf while writing his music.

Tobi: ‘Now, I do have a question for you. Is there any other profession that you would like to do. Did you have a dream job when you where a little boy?
Melon: ‘It’s really weird, but I always wanted to work in a kindergarten or with children when I was younger. My mom used to always have children around the farm where I grew up. She was babysitting them during their lunch break or after school. I was always around these kids and really getting along with them So, I always thought of ending up working with kids actually. Well, that turned out differently. Hahahah!
Tobi: ‘But at least you have a lovely boy now.’
Melon: ‘Yeah definitely. And I also saw nice pictures of you and your daughter in China, right?’
Tobi: ‘Yes, that was fantastic. She graduated school and called me to tell she wanted to travel with me one weekend. Then I looked at my schedule and there was Beijing and Tokyo. And i checked with the promotors if we could share one more flight, which worked out so we had three more days extra in China and three more in Tokyo as well. We had a fantastic week together.
Melon: ‘And your daughter came to the parties as well’
Tobi: ‘Uhuh, she’s eighteen.’
Melon: ‘I can’t wait till my son is eighteen actually so I can bring him to gigs and festivals.
Tobi: ‘How old is he now?’
Melon: ‘3 and a half.’
Tobi: ‘Give him some time then’
Melon: ‘For sure, it’s all way too loud for him now anyway.’

Melon and Tobi Neumann will play their third all night back-to-back set in Trouw on Saturday the 21st of July.  Their children won’t be around though.
