The name Solar might still be a bit unknown to quite a few. This San Francisco DJ will play in our booth alongside Dixon, Alex From Tokyo and Job Jobse this Sunday. He was also present at the Innervisions Überall night in Panorama Bar last weekend and his performance was one of the highlights. The fact that Solar played in Berlin last week and here in Trouw in a couple of days, is no coincidence. Actually, there’s a nice story to be told about this.
There’s not a lot to be found on the Internet about Solar (real name Solar Langevin). Still he’s been quite the Bay Area favorite for the past 15 years by co-founding the outdoor Sunset Parties in San Francisco with his broad house/techno sound. Furthermore, he’s done opening sets for acts like Simian Mobile Disco and Joey Beltram in recent times. But how did Solar end up in Europe all of a sudden?
The story goes like this: Solar was doing the opening set before Dixon a while back on one of the Sunset Parties in San Francisco. Dixon was immediately impressed by his style; something that doesn’t happen quite often with the Innervisions boss. Solely based on that performance, Dixon invited Solar to tour with him and the other Innervisions guys through Europe. And not only Dixon is one of his admirers: Midland was also very impressed when he saw him play in San Fran and had to contain himself from asking the names of every track Solar put on.
A couple of days ago, Solar went over to Tim Sweeney’s studio at Radio Beats In Space. You can listen to his set in New York on the right-hand side, so you be the judge of the man’s skills. Anyway, we’re super excited to dance to Solar’s sound this Sunday!
