Born in Paris, grown up in Tokyo and now active and living in New York: that’s the life story of Alex From Tokyo in a nutshell. What most people don’t know, is that Alex does a lot of stuff besides his DJ career, like the music coordination for Adidas Y-3. Especially for this night we are giving away one Y-3 10 Year Anniversary Compilation plus a guestlist for you and your friend to Tokyo Black Star!
Alex From Tokyo, or Alexandre Plat, has lived in Tokyo in his adolescence for over twenty years. After high school he went to study in Paris and became friends with DJ Deep, Laurent Garnier, Dimitri and St. Germain. With his clear connection with Japan, he quickly became to spokesperson for Laurent Garnier’s F Communications label in Japan. Soon he found himself helping other European labels to find their way in Japan and he started making his salary in this way. Although Alex now lives in New York, he goes back to Japan every two months to play at his 13 year residency Gallery. Alex produces under the moniker Tokyo Black Star with his friend Isuo Kumano on labels like DJ Deep’s Deeply Rooted Deep House and Innervisions. He also translated Laurent Garnier’s book Electrochoc from French to Japanese and keeps up an entertaining blog. On the area of fashion, Alex is certainly not unknown: he is amongst others responsible for the consulting, production work and music coordination of fashion brands like Adidas Y-3 and Louis Vuitton. Truly a man that can turn his hand to anything.
Alex From Tokyo is coming to Trouw this Friday with our very own jack-of-all-trades Olaf Boswijk at Tokyo Black Star. We are giving away 3x2 spots on the guestlist for this night. We’ll also throw in a copy of the Adidas Y-3 10 Year Anniversary Compilation CD!
