In the beginning of this year, MOTUS took the ballet from NDT’s repertoire out of its traditional environment and moved it to Trouw; a location you might not associate with theatre. Because let’s be honest: modern ballet isn’t something you expect to find during your regular night out. This contrast interests MOTUS and was truly a sight to behold: the raw, industrial setting of Trouw in contrast with the pure ballet of NDT. A sold-out club hall padded with rubber mats, the public on the stairs just a few inches away from the dancers so you can feel their every move and energy. The result: a confronting experience. And now, MOTUS is back with a second edition!
The programme of MOTUS II on October 10th presents (parts from) four recently premiered ballets. The mysterious Sara (2013 by Sharon Eyal en Gai Behar), a dramatic duet from Shine a Light (2012 by Sol León & Paul Lightfoot), the abstract-mimic Schmetterling (2010 by Sol León & Paul Lightfoot) and I New Then (2012 by Johan Inger), where dancers explore their artistic identity. Inbetween performances, NON Records DJ Crew will spin some records.
