Freude am Tanzen

Freude am Tanzen

12-04-2013 | 11.42

Once Mathias Kaden and Daniel Stefanik pop up behind the decks, there is only one thing you can do: dance till you drop! Their back-to-back sessions are legendary, so be sure not to miss this one.
Trouw-blogger Bonita van Lier had a chat with them a couple of days ago before coming to Amsterdam.

An all-nighter in Trouw, back to back: that's really something! Who made this happen?
‘You could call it our own special request. We wanted this badly and the club agreed. Life is beautiful!’

You both have a different signature, but the mix seems to work out perfectly alright (I heard some snippets of your performance at THINK?, Cospudener See, Leipzig in 2010 and Love Family Park in 2011). What's the secret of the chemistry between the two of you?
‘We are different indeed. Daniel stands for techno, whereas I am strongly influenced by house music. A few years ago we both realized that the combination between the two of us could work out just fine. It’s a symbiosis of two spirits. The secret? We are fond of each other and we enjoy working together. A lot!’

If you were to add a 3rd person for a b2b-session, who would it be?
‘I think 20 fingers are more than enough, haha!’ (Mathias). ‘That's true!’ (Daniel).

@Mathias: Awakenings, VOLTT, ADE.. you're familiar with the Dutch crowd. Could you name a couple of your personal highlights?
‘In general, it´s always a big pleasure for me to play in Amsterdam. Huge festivals like Awakenings and VOLTT or clubs like Paradiso and Studio 80 are just amazing. And that goes for Trouw too, of course! I find it dazzling that all this is taking place in one and the same city. Awesome!’

How well received was 'Window Smasher (Mathias Kaden Close To The Window Remix)'?
‘It was one of the first remixes Mathias did for me. Must have been seven years ago. Kind of a crazy minimal DJ tool, a bit weird maybe. But yes, well received.’

Rødhåd recently told me that his roots in the former DDR helped him to keep both feet on the ground. How is that for the two of you?
‘We think we understand what he means by that. The system came with a strong feeling for old traditions. The way we were brought up keeps us, what we call, ‘bodenständig’.’

@Mathias: 3 records that will stick to you till the end of time.. And why?
‘Josh Wink - Higher state of consciousness. One of my first techno records. Blaze - My beat. One of the best house records ever! Ron Trent - Dancefloor Boogie Delites. With this sound it all started for me in 1995. So good!!!!’

@Daniel: 3 records that will stick to you till the end of time.. And why?
‘Maurizio – M5. So simple, but you can listen to it, on and on and on! I was strongly influenced by this record. Boards of Canada – Geogaddi. A must have on Warp!!! Ricardo Villalobos – Thé Au Harem D'Archimede. Need I say more? Ricardo is one of my heroes in the electronic scene.’

Have fun tonight, guys!
