Imagine something like this happening to you: leaving your trusted environment to make a side-tour into pure techno with a new alter ego and receiving support for your first EP by DJ greats such as Ben Klock, Marcel Dettmann, Peter van Hoesen, Blawan, Ben Sims, Adam Beyer, Cari Lekebusch, Laurent Garnier, Norman Nodge, Surgeon, Rolando, Samuli Kemppi, Rødhåd, Boddika and many more.
This happened to Darko Esser when he released his first EP ‘First Trip’ under the alias Tripeo at the end of last year. The man from Nijmegen probably didn’t expect so much commotion for the first Tripeo EP. However, Darkos Esser has been an established name, with a sound that balances between house and techno. He has played venues such as Berghain, Panoramabar, Club Rex, Tresor and of course his HQ Doornroosje. With Tripeo, Esser is shedding some light on his puristic techno side. And this goes hand in hand with the direction he’s taking with his Balans nights with bookings such as Donato Dozzy, DVS1 and Oscar Mulero.
After his ‘Second Trip’, Tripeo will be released the ‘Third Trip’ in April. Until the time, we continue to enjoy his first two EP’s. Noted down below are some nice feedback on the First Trip EP from some renowned techno legends:
Laurent Garnier – “Fuuuuck, this is gooooood. Definite support from me on this funky as hell, proper techno release.”
Samuli Kemppi – “Great debut for Tripeo. Will play these on radio and in my gigs. Thanks Darko!”
Stephan Bodzin – “Thanks to you & Darko for sending that stuff so early. I had a very (very) close ear on that tracks tonight. This stuff left me speechless after I’ve been thru with listening from the first to the last second… you know the game game, these day everyone is skipping music, first full play mostly in the club. But “untitled #1″ just blew me away like rarely happened this year. Seriously. How fat can 909 / acid / oldschool be produced today? I guess Darko gave us the answer. Warm & analogue, loud & in your face. The acid synth is a typical acid synth, but still it's absolutely surprising not! same with that highpass filtered freaking out padchord something… my good where did he find that??? amazing signature, amazing attitude, and last but not least &rt;&rt;&rt; pure gold for the dancefloor. A killer, said that to much lately, will stop doing that from on today. Same action with the bside, but a is def my fave here. Darko is Holland. Holland is techno. Techno is Tripeo. Thank you Mr Esser for being so far ahead. (sounds like blabla…. but i could go on writing 15 min only about the production of the 909 kit plus 15 about the mixdown. man…wtf) äh…. i support.”
KiNK – “WOW! I give maximum rating to this. Timeless techno sound, music from another planet! I like it so much! I’m definitely getting a copy when the vinyl comes out! Both tracks are amazing, I can’t pick a favourite. Superb release. Tripeo will be a project to follow from now on!”
Norman Nodge – “Have played the Untitled #2 during my set in Berghain last weekend. Great tune! Will play it again for sure!”
Rolando – “This is an excellent start for Darko’s new project. Both tracks are great but A1 is the cut that I’m really feeling the most. Definitely playing this out!!”
Tripeo will be performing on Saturday the 23rd with his live-set in De Verdieping besides Jeroen Search, Ritzi Lee, Robin Kampschoer en Viktor Palmer during the Imprint Live Special. Our techno queen Sandrien is playing all night long in our club hall. A night with a lovely Dutch vibe.
Oh and Darko is also giving away a free track every month from his archive on his Soundcloud. That’s always a nice little bonus!
