The Night Bazaar will be a feast for the eyes! Besides clothes, cocktails, hairdressers and games you will find that visual arts are well represented during the evening. Cineville will be showing high quality short films, Copypasteculture takes you along a wide range of photography and there will be an exhibition of work by one of Amsterdam's finest photographers: Jordi Huisman. Huisman also shot the image of the lamps in De Verdieping for the Night Bazaar. Time to get to know him a little better.
Huisman started as a freelance photographer in 2005 and did a variety of series for Vrij Nederland and Volkskrant Magazine. His series on hold/laid off was awarded with the 2nd place foreign documentary at the Zilveren Camera 2009 and his work has been exhibited world-wide. Keep an eye on this guy, we're guessing we'll be hearing a lot from him!
During the Night Bazaar Huisman will exhibit a part of his series Rear Window. The series shows the back of buildings in European capitols. By doing this Huisman does not only give insight in national differences but also sheds light on a universal urban chaos. The work also has a voyeuristic streak to it: the detailled imagery lets you look into places which are normally hidden from view.
This all provides a lot of visual inspiration to get you going in the workshops that Huis Marseille and the Lomography Gallery Store will be giving. Thus the Night Bazaar is your private cultural hardline when you're not dancing upstairs.
