May's track of the month sounds like a soundtrack for an 80's coming of age movie that is situated in an American suburb for the middle class. The record we are talking about is Lauer's 70000ac that's one of the twelve tracks on his debut album Phillips (probably named after his name Phillip). Not only 70000ac, but the rest of the album as well, sounds like a soundtrack from the past. A very sunshiny and fun past, if we can quote the Resident Advisor review of the album. Although we think the album definitely has a certain sexy vibe as well.
According to RA the review the music Lauer has put on Phillips is called 'yacht rock house'. We like to call it 'coming of age synth house' since we like to put weird musical labels on music at the Trouw offices and also because we don't agree with the RA explanation of the yacht rock house label. Whatever it may be, we expect 70000ac or any other track on Phillips to end up in the next series of Grand Theft Auto and for sure in our club when Lauer ends the Robert Johnson 'Come On In My Kitchen Tour' with a live set.
