We are very happy that we can announce the first name for the line-up of Contemporary Art Club on March 29. The work of Rineke Dijkstra will be exhibited in the club that day. Trouw/De Verdieping and the Stedelijk Museum organize together Contemporary Art Club, an evening and night packed with art, multimedia installations, lectures and interviews, and of course the most cutting-edge club sounds!
Many contemporary artists are inspired by the various sub- and underground cultures they are a part of (or look at from the outside), and their work chronicles, foregrounds or criticizes these cultures that usually escape the mainstream eye. Contemporary Art Club aspires to bring these art works from the white cube of the museum (back) into the club context they deal with, and explore the relation between club scenes, underground culture and contemporary art. Zooming in on particular works and artists, this major event demonstrates the crossovers between art and nightlife. And what better place to start than Stedelijk @ Trouw/De Verdieping?
Contemporary Art Club is the first of four events organized by the Stedelijk and Trouw/De Verdieping, that challenge you to look at contemporary art in a new way.
