Arnout Hulskamp

Visual artist Arnout Hulskamp is an acclaimed VJ and creator of video installations.
Hulskamp is fascinated by all things new. He has developed his own image manipulation software called ‘Open Wound’ to create a brand new visual language. At the same time he has an ongoing love affair with the “old masters” from the worlds of painting and cinema, like Piet Mondriaan and Bert Haanstra.

Several of his VJ projects shine a new light on ancient achievements by creating a relationship with the present. His style can be described as playful, poetic and cinematographic.
As a VJ he played with the likes of James Holden, Laurent Garnier, Trentemøller, The Field, Michiel Borstlap, Henrik Schwarz, Francois K, Derrick May, Ellen Allien and many more. He played in venues in Paris, New York City, Geneva, in several places across The Netherlands and in most popular venues of his hometown Amsterdam, like 11, Melkweg, Paradiso and Arti. Since 2009 Arnout Hulskamp holds a residency in TrouwAmsterdam.

Hulskamp frequently joins forces with French visual artist Chloé Tallot. Typically, they do multiscreen performances while telling little stories with strong visual contrasts between their video channels, eventually blending completely into each other.

With his studio Aaiqu (all art is quite useless) he works on assignments for video-based projects, e.g. a 3D-videomapping projection for TEDxAmsterdam, a PDA video tour for the Zeeuws Museum and a sailing projection project for Museumn8. For both of his latest two projects, Hulskamp was awarded a Gouden Reiger, the Dutch award for outstanding projects in the field of audiovisual media.
