Interview with Hessle Audio

11-10-2014 | 10.24

We’ve endeavoured numerous attempts in the past to interview the Hessle Audio crew here at Trouw. Questions have been formulated, dates have been set, emails have been sent, but all previous efforts have failed conclusively to entice the Hessle Audio heads into a conversation. It was only ahead of their upcoming ADE performance that an email labelled Trouw blog piece with Hessle Audio & more, finally presented us with the opportunity to conduct a short email interview with Ben UFO, Pangaea and Pearson Sound.

Interview with Don Williams

10-10-2014 | 10.37

If you’re up for his style, Don Williams is a dj who'll never disappoint. His name is as American as his sets, with a heap of influences from Chicago and Detroit. After the interview, Don Williams said: “The first time I met Convextion in person, I was expecting a dark skinned guy from Detroit. But he’s actually from Texas and looks nothing like that.” You could say the same about Thomas (Don Williams’ real name), who grew up in a small town near Berlin.

Interview with Margot

03-10-2014 | 14.31

It wasn’t a very good idea to do an interview over Skype with Margot. The Italian duo has quite a hard time answering me. My questions were frequently answered with "we don’t understand", but after trying two or three times, we manage to get the wanted result. And even though I spoke with Pepe on a night in Ekko earlier this year, apparently I forgot how difficult it was for him. "You should have seen us 6 years ago. It’s already much better now", they say. I have to give them a lot of credits for keeping up for over half an hour.

Burrata stays on the Trouw menu!

Seize the opportunity if you are a fan of burrata, the Italian cheese that is probably the planet’s best. Whereas anywhere else it is considered to be a spring or summer dish, Trouw will be serving burrata until the very last day of its existence! Not many people realize that this miracle of a cheese can be eaten all year round. Time to catch up with Marco Sotgiu, the guy who provides Trouw with the best Italian products. He is giving us a short lecture on why burrata is such a special cheese indeed.

About Matthew Herbert

27-09-2014 | 12.28

There are few producers today that can match the innovation and ingenuity that Matthew Herbert has displayed over the past twenty years through his various aliases. Herbert has an exceptional talent for spotting a musical quality in sounds that would otherwise pass us by in every day life, and his ability to transform these sounds into engaging pieces is second to none.

Interview with Job Jobse

24-09-2014 | 14.57

After weeks of planning and a series of delays, Job Jobse’s voice finally cuts through the lo-fi Skype ringtone as his image blurs into view. “Good morning, Job and thank you for accommodating our early appointment.”

Interview with Three

18-09-2014 | 12.14

"Who I think has got the best record collection? DJ Three for sure. Also Danny Howells and Derrick Carter. If I saw their collection I would be floored! I admire them so much anyway, but they really have a record collection."

It's not only Cassy that talks with high praise about DJ Three (otherwise known as just Three). Quite the contrary, because many have named him as one of the true innovators in the US scene today.

17-09-2014 | 16.45

Electronic music producer and visual artist Wolfgang Voigt will join us for the second edition of New Music for Found Footage where he will perform an original score for Gustav Deutsch’s “Film Ist.”.  I asked Voigt a few questions about the upcoming performance and his ideas about sampling.

Interview with Ryan Elliott

11-09-2014 | 12.11

Ever since we heard the news that Ryan Elliott would produce the Panorama Bar 06 mix, we were anxious to hear it in its entirety. The Berlin artist, originally from Detroit, would be the first in line to release this famous mix online for free and contains tracks by heavy-hitters like Head High, Roman Flügel, Marcel Dettmann, Mr. G, Tuff City Kids, Terrence Dixon, and Genius of Time. Makam is also present on the mix and invited the man himself to his Club Night Weekender this weekend, which gave us a perfect reason to have a chat with the Berghain/Panorama Bar resident.

GUP Magazine has been exhibiting the work of young Dutch photographers in our toilets since 2012. They have always been solo exhibitions that were shown for several months. The last pictures to be put up in October will be shown until the end of Trouw. This time we want to create a group exhibition of talented photographers that want to pay Trouw and our building one last tribute.

Interview with Petar Dundov

05-09-2014 | 11.31

We've all come to know Petar Dundov as one of the most enigmatic techno live sets of the last decade. Born in Zagreb, his career in dance music stretches back the best part of 20 years, but it’s only in the new millennium that he’s been using his own name for his productions. His 2013 album Sailing Off The Grid got raving reviews and enforced his unique style of making techno music to expand people's horizons. Petar returns to Trouw this Saturday to play at Something Happening Somewhere with Etapp Kyle and Nuno dos Santos. A lot has happened since we've last seen him, so we were thrilled to have a chat with him in the middle of his busy schedule.

Nuno dos Santos' Something Happening Somewhere label will be hosting a new edition of their club night here in Trouw on Saturday. With their fourth EP that has just been released (Sigward - Black Mambo), they thought it would be nice to sell a couple of their releases on the night itself so you can take home a cool gift for yourself or someone else!

The joint month of the young talented residents in Trouw is coming to an end. This Friday Tsepo (Jan van der Lugt) and Tim Hoeben will play at Trouw all night long. Tsepo upstairs and Tim downstairs, in De Verdieping. A couple of days ago, the youngsters talked this exciting night through, in preparation of things to come. How do they live up to this moment?

About New Music For Found Footage

24-08-2014 | 19.19

Music for Found Footage is a collaboration between Trouw and CineSonic, with EYE Film Museum as a partner in the first edition. In the forthcoming months, four artists will present their music, created for a selection of short films. Every night, a different artist will be responsible: Tom Trago, Legowelt, Shackleton and Wolfgang Voigt. Tom Trago is the first one up. I spoke with him about music  (or sound) in films and his view on the night in question.

Interview with Motor City Drum Ensemble

21-08-2014 | 10.11

A few years back, a close friend played me a record. It was around the time house was experiencing a well-deserved resurgence in Europe. It re-introduced the genre to its Chicago and Detroit roots while it also explored the deeper bass lines that were left behind from the dubstep era. The track was called Frontin and it was unique to everything else that was around at the time. It still tipped its hat to the origins of dance music, but there was a raw quality that was unrivaled amongst its contemporaries. I was hooked. After inquiring, my friend informed me that German artist Danilo Plessow created Frontin under the guise of Motor City Drum Ensemble, a name that reflects his auto-Industry-home origins of Stuttgart.

All good things must come to an end, as is also the case with Trouw. We previously announced we would be closing our doors by the end of this year, but now there is an official date set. The very last opportunity to party here in Trouw is Saturday January 3rd 2015.
