Visible Cities #2: Ole Bouman (NAi) & Johannes la Poutré (Squio)
Wednesday March 3, De Verdieping, starts 20:00 hrs, Entrance 2,50
After Euro Beinat of the CurrentCity Foundation and Ronald Lenz of the Waag Society in the previous edition, this time Visible Cities is pleased to welcome NAi director Ole Bouman and Johannes la Poutré of Squio to talk about the opportunities of augmented reality (unfortunately Maurice Groenhart of Layar could not come tonight).
Bouman and Layar collaborated on a new application for the urban environment: SARA, an augmented reality layer that can show the design of a building in realtime in the city in your iPhone or Android browser long before construction has even started.
They will talk about their particular ideas and experiences. SARA is the world’s first mobile architecture application featuring augmented reality with 3D models.
The NAI has set itself the task to make the Netherlands the first country in the world to have all of its architecture viewable on smartphones via augmented reality.
The world’s first building to appear in three dimensions on the smartphone via augmented reality is MVRDV’s eye-catching Market Hall which is currently under construction in Rotterdam ’s Blaak area.
